Signing in on a filtered device with a one-time code

Some filters block the Google, Apple or account pages that sign-in normally opens. A one-time code lets you sign in on another device and carry the session over.

Why sign-in fails on some filtered devices

When you choose Continue with Google or Continue with Apple, TachlisAI opens Google’s or Apple’s own sign-in page. Some content filters block those pages, TachlisAI’s account page or the browser itself, so the sign-in never finishes. A one-time code avoids those pages on the filtered device: you sign in somewhere else and carry the session over.

If your account has a password

Email-and-password sign-in happens on TachlisAI’s own screen, without opening Google, Apple or a separate sign-in page, so try it first if your account has a password. If you normally sign in with Google or Apple and have never set a separate TachlisAI password, use a code, and choose that same provider on the code page. Some accounts are linked to more than one sign-in method; if you aren’t sure, use the one you normally use.

Signing in with a code

  1. On the filtered device, open TachlisAI, go to sign in and tap Sign in with a code. It sits under the password field, below Forgot password? The screen reads: “Sign in at tachlisai.com/code on any device, then enter the code here.”
  2. On another device that can reach the sign-in pages, such as a computer or a family member’s phone, open tachlisai.com/code. Under Get a sign-in code, sign in the way you normally do: Continue with Google, Continue with Apple, or your email and password followed by Get code.
  3. The code appears under Your sign-in code: eight characters in two groups of four, with a countdown and a Copy code button.
  4. Back on the filtered device, type the code. It signs in as soon as all eight characters are in, or you can tap Sign in.

Each code works once and expires after 10 minutes. Getting a code doesn’t sign that other browser in to TachlisAI. If you used Google or Apple on someone else’s computer, sign out of Google or Apple there afterward.

Once you are signed in, the filtered device renews its session through TachlisAI’s own server even if the filter blocks the account page, so you shouldn’t need a new code each time the session refreshes. Each code creates its own session: signing out on one device doesn’t sign out the other. It is the same account on both, so your chats are there on the filtered device too.

When the code step opens by itself

If you tap Continue with Google or Continue with Apple and the page is blocked, or the browser can’t hand the sign-in back to the app, TachlisAI may open the code step for you with the note “That sign-in didn't finish. Use a code instead.”

In the installed app, the code step also has an Open tachlisai.com/code button. It opens the code page in your phone’s own browser, which helps when the browser works but can’t return to the app: sign in there, copy the code and paste it into the app.

If something goes wrong

Messages you might see, and what to do
What you seeWhat to do
“Enter all 8 characters of your code.”Look for a missing character. Dashes and spaces don’t count, and capital or small letters both work.
“That code isn't valid or has expired. Get a new code and try again.”Codes last 10 minutes and work once. On the other device, tap Get a new code.
“You've made several codes recently. Please wait a little and try again.”There is a limit of 10 codes per person per hour. Wait, then try again.
“Finish signing in on this device first, then come back here for a code.”Your password account needs a step first, such as confirming your email or choosing a new password. Sign in normally on the device showing this message to complete it, then return to tachlisai.com/code.
“Sign-in codes aren't available right now. Please try again later.”The service can’t issue or accept codes at the moment. Try again later, or write to support@tachlisai.com.
No Sign in with a code linkUpdate the app. The link appears only in app versions that include it, and only while the service has codes turned on.

Codes never contain the letters O, I or L. If you type them, they are read as 0 and 1, so a mix-up there won’t cause an error.

What a code does and doesn’t do

A code replaces the sign-in pages; it doesn’t change what your filter allows. The filtered device still has to reach TachlisAI itself, so if the filter blocks TachlisAI, a code can’t help. Whether TachlisAI belongs on a filtered device is a decision for you and whoever manages the filter.

Treat a code like a password while it is valid: enter it only on your own device, and don’t post it or send it to anyone else. New to TachlisAI? Create your account on a device that can reach the sign-in pages, then use a code on the filtered one.
